L.O.L.: A Poem For Our Times

L.O.L.: A Poem For Our Times

“L.O.L.” she said to me

“What?” I said to her

“L.O.L.” she said to me

“What, what is that?” I said to her

“You know, like ‘laugh out loud.’” she said to me

“But you didn’t even laugh.” I said to her

“You looked right at me and didn’t even laugh.” I said to her

“It’s just a thing… something to say.” she said to me

“Words to fill the emptiness.” she said to me

“You know, you aren’t exactly easy to talk to.” she said to me

“What the fuck?” I thought to myself as she walked away

“Fill the emptiness?” I thought to myself

“Hard to talk to?” I thought to myself

“At least I emote.”

“=/”

  2. I don't know this for sure, but I suspect that one of the multiple layers of meaning for the online slang word LOL is that of canned laughter. In other words, when one reads this short-hand for lots of laughter OR Laugh Out Loud, the sound of canned laughter is supposed to come to mind as if one's life (or online networking) was like that of a 1960s, or 70s, or even 80s sit-com.

I never imagined my life with its own laugh-track, or perhaps even its own studio audience composed of anonymous viewers that are prompted to laugh when the 'sit'(situation) of the sit-com becomes humorous. When I was in High School, I did have episodes of my favorite Rock Songs during the better, more 'choice' moments of adolescent coolness and awesome events. Anyway, I am collecting data from all Cornings worldwide. Please send me contact information to my Email: jason.corning15@gmail.com

Are we original Irish Catholic, Welsh Catholic, or Welsh Protestant? My family always insisted that the Cornings were always Catholic. Let me know. May the LORD God bless you in the name of St. Judas Maccabaeus.

No more LOL! Demand the best called RAR (Rock And Roll) real life soundtrack! Sammy Hagar sings it with Heavy Metal:

    Tight pants and lipstick
    She's running on a razor's edge
She holds her own against the boys

    We've got upfront fanatics
    tearing down the barricade
    to reach the stage
    can you feel the rage!!!

It's your one-way ticket to midnight
    Call it Heavy Metal
On and on feeling just right
    Call it Heavy Metal...
